Deep Tissue Treatments

If you’re living with chronic pain, the source might be located deep within the soft tissues. The team at Purdy Chiropractic in Rochester and Washington, MI, offer deep tissue treatments to eliminate the root of your suffering.

Quick Guide to Deep Tissue Treatment

People often think of soft tissues as one entity, but there are actually several layers and several types in the body. Some people are fortunate in that their pain and tension are easily accessible in the upper layer, meaning that a superficial massage or gentle stretch provides relief.

For others, that’s not the case. Injuries that haven’t healed, repetitive stress, and other factors can lead to tension, trigger points, scar tissue, and more in the deeper layers. And unfortunately, these can lead to chronic pain and suffering and they aren’t quite as easy to access. Below, the team at Purdy Chiropractic of Rochester and Washington, MI, explains how deep tissue treatments can help.

What Is Deep Tissue Treatment, and How Is It Performed?

In short, a deep tissue treatment is something that goes beyond the superficial layers of tissue. One common type of treatment is a deep tissue massage. The provider will typically begin with a more superficial massage to help loosen the upper layers and detect deeper areas that are troubled. They’ll then increase the pressure of the kneading and slow strokes to target those troubled areas.

Another highly effective deep tissue treatment is laser treatment. Unlike the manual techniques of massage, laser treatment is provided through a handheld device that aims light energy into troubled areas. It can penetrate several inches of soft tissue. Once it reaches the target area, the light energy is absorbed by the cells and begins a natural healing process.
